A Spicy Margarita Beer Cocktail Recipe with Jalapeño Saison

Jalapeno Beer Margarita

We’re all drinking at home a lot more right now. That’s the reality of the situation when our craft beer bars and beloved breweries are mandated to operate for to-go sales only.

But there is one advantage to drinking craft beer in the comfort of your own home. You can get creative and mix your own beer cocktails or, in this case, a beerita.

Here at Team On Rotation, we are big fans of spicy drinks, as you might imagine from a brewery that produces a Jalapeño Saison on the regular, and this little concoction is one we like to mix up when margaritas are on the menu.

Depending on whether you’re entertaining or simply mixing up a rita nightcap, there are two approaches to this spicy margarita — the fancy and the functional.

Let’s start with the fancy version.

Make It Fancy: Beerita Version

This recipe will produce a single spicy beer margarita featuring Jalapeño Saison.

Ingredients you need for the fancy version

  • 6 ounces of On Rotation Jalapeño Saison
  • 1.5 ounces of tequila — agave , tequila blanco, or reposado
  • 1 ounce of Cointreau
  • 1 ounce of fresh lime juice
  • 1-2 fresh slices of jalapeño

And if you are a fan of salting the rim of your margarita glass, you should also include these ingredients:

  • Kosher or sea salt
  • Cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Fresh lime wedges

How to the make fancy Jalapeño Saison margaritas

  1. Prepare your glass. If you’re fancy-fancy and salting the rim, prepare your salt on a plate or small dish. Mix in cayenne pepper to add an extra kick to each sip. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of the glass and dip the glass into your mixture.
  2. Add your non-beer ingredients. Pour in your tequila, Cointreau, jalapeños, and lime juice to the serving glass and stir.
  3. Chill out. Add ice.
  4. Saison time. Top it off with On Rotation Jalapeño Saison and garnish with lime. You can add more Jalapeño Saison to taste if you’re looking to reduce the sweetness of the Cointreau.

But what if you’re not so fancy?

Functional is Fine: Party Margs Version

This recipe will produce a pitcher or punch bowl of tasty, functional spicy beer margaritas featuring Jalapeño Saison.

Ingredients you need for the spicy margarita party

  • 16 ounces of On Rotation Jalapeño Saison
  • 12 ounces of tequila — agave , tequila blanco, or reposado (your choice)
  • 2 ounces of Cointreau, Grand Marnier, or Triple Sec
  • 1 can of frozen lime concentrate
  • 1 diced jalapeño pepper with the seeds removed

If you are going to entertain your guests (or, ahem, yourself) with the option of a salted rim, make sure you also include these ingredients:

  • Kosher or sea salt
  • Cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Fresh lime wedges

How to the make the “party edition” Jalapeño Saison margaritas

  1. Get spicy. Dice your jalapeño pepper and dispose of the seeds.
  2. Smooth it over. Blend the lime concentrate and diced jalapeños together until smooth.
  3. Ready the vessel. Pour the blend into a pitcher or other serving device — not your mouth.
  4. Party time. Add the Jalapeño Saison, your tequila of choice, and either Cointreau, Grand Marnier, or Triple Sec.
  5. Slush it. Refrigerate the solution to chill it down for the party or give it the extra time to freeze it if your preference is a “slushie” spicy margarita.
  6. Prepare your glasses. If you’re going to be salting the rim, prepare your salt on a plate or small dish. Mix in cayenne pepper to add an extra kick to each sip. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of each glass and dip the glass into your mixture before filling it.

And one more thing…

If you want a little more sweetness in your life, consider adding your favorite fresh fruit or fruit juices to this concoction. Mango can be especially refreshing.
